Abstract

Overview: Acute coronary syndrome (ACS) in hypertensive patients is associated with a higher mortality rate. Although ANRIL gene polymorphisms have been implicated in ACS, data on the hypertensive subgroup are limited. Objective: To describe the characteristics of ANRIL gene polymorphisms in patients with acute coronary syndrome and hypertension. Methods: A cross-sectional comparative study was conducted on 60 patients with acute coronary syndrome and hypertension and 30 patients with acute coronary syndrome without hypertension at Can Tho Central General Hospital from April 2023 to July 2023. Results: The mean age was 66.6 ± 9.6 years, with males comprising a higher proportion than females at a ratio of 2:1, the normal and overweight BMI groups accounted for the same proportion, and there was a statistically significant difference in age distribution between the two groups. 58.3% had ST-elevation myocardial infarction, with 90.0% classified as Killip class I. Single-vessel coronary artery disease was present in 41.7%, predominantly involving the left anterior descending artery (88.3%). The mean Gensini score was 48,3%. The ANRIL gene types in hypertensive ACS patients were CC (5.0%), TC (50%), and TT (45%), with allele frequencies of C (30%) and T (70%), showing no significant difference compared to the non-hypertensive ACS group. Conclusion: Our study found that the TC genotype of the ANRIL gene was the most prevalent in hypertensive ACS patients, with no significant difference compared to the non-hypertensive group.
