Abstract
The year 2023 is a memorable one with the release of the first comprehensive guidelines on cardiomyopathies by the European Society of Cardiology in November. Although these guidelines do not completely replace the existing specific guidelines for each cardiomyopathy (such as the 2020 Guidelines for the Diagnosis and Treatment of Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy by American College of Cardiology/American Heart Association – ACC/AHA – or the 2019 Expert Consensus Statement on the Management of Arrhythmic Cardiomyopathy/Right Ventricular Arrhythmogenic Cardiomyopathy by Heart Rhythm Society – HRS), they serve as the first comprehensive document guiding diagnosis, treatment and management of cardiomyopathies. This article will highlight some of the new features in the aforementioned European Society of Cardiology guidelines.
