Abstract
Background: Nursing students are at increased risk of developing lower limb varicose veins (LLVV) due to prolonged standing during clinical training. Adequate knowledge of risk factors and preventive measures is essential to reduce the incidence of LLVV.
Objective: To assess the knowledge of LLVV prevention among nursing students at the Hanoi Medical University, Thanh Hoa Campus.
Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted among 184 nursing students from 2nd to 4th year between November 2024 and May 2025. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire assessing knowledge of definition, risk factors, symptoms, complications, management, and preventive measures of LLVV. Knowledge levels were classified as good, moderate, or poor.
Results: Only 13.9% of students demonstrated good knowledge of LLVV prevention. The majority (60.6%) had moderate knowledge, while 25.6% showed poor knowledge. Knowledge levels improved with higher academic year.
Conclusion: Nursing students’ knowledge of LLVV prevention was at a moderate level overall. Educational interventions should be strengthened to improve awareness and prevention practices.
