Abstract

Objective: Description of the clinical and paraclinical characteristics of patients with myocardial infarction and cardiogenic shock at Saint Paul General Hospital. Evaluation of the initial treatment outcomes for these study subjects.

Subjects and methods: This is a descriptive cross-sectional study combined with a retrospective analysis involving 30 patients diagnosed with myocardial infarction and cardiogenic shock who were admitted to the Emergency Department of Saint Paul General Hospital from January 2021 to December 2022. Results: The average age of the patient group was 75.5 ± 13.6 years, with 53.3% being over 75 years old. Males accounted for 67%. Patients with a history of hypertension made up 73.3%. Additionally, 50% of the patients experienced circulatory arrest complications. In the study, 18 patients (60%) died or were in critical condition and requested to be discharged, 10 patients (33.3%) were transferred due to exceeding treatment capacity, and only 2 patients (6.6%) were discharged.
