Abstract
Objective: To identify the disease patterns and medication usage among residents in Loc An and Loc Dien Communes, Hue City.
Subjects and Methods: A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted on 340 outpatients attending the commune health stations of Loc An and Loc Dien, Hue City, from July 26 to July 27, 2024.
Results: Hypertension was the most prevalent condition in both communes, with a prevalence of 59.9% in Loc Dien and 43.6% in Loc An. Regarding medication usage, cardiovascular and metabolic drugs were the most commonly used group, with a total of 24,040 instances of use. Within this group, angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors (43.68%) and calcium channel blockers (12.9%) were the most frequently prescribed. Among antidiabetic medications, DPP-4 inhibitors accounted for the majority (55.74%), reflecting a trend toward the use of newer antidiabetic agents. For antibiotics, amoxicillin was the predominant choice (50%), indicating a preference for managing common infections. In the analgesic and anti-inflammatory drug group, acetaminophen (20.41%) and sulpiride (30.61%) were widely used, aligning with the observed prevalence of musculoskeletal and neurological conditions.
Conclusion: The findings reflect the prevailing burden of cardiovascular diseases and the current medication usage patterns in Loc An and Loc Dien Communes. The study also highlights local disparities that warrant further attention in healthcare planning and intervention.
