Abstract
Background: Ventricular septal defect is an acyanotic heart defect, right-to-left-shunt causes volume overloading of the pulmonary. So, a few patient has clinical symptoms as heart failure, as well as more frequent respiratory infections and slow-growing. Objectives:Describe the clinical, subclinical characteristics and treatment result of pneumonia in children with Ventricular septal defect. Materials and Methods: A cross-sectional descriptive study was carried out of 34 children with Ventricular septal defect who was diagnosed pneumonia at Can Tho Children's Hospital and Soc Trang Hospital for women and children. Results: In 34 cases, there were 52,9% of male, 14,5% of Down's syndrom, 41,2% of malnutrition. The common clinical signs: cough (91,2%), fever (76.2%), poor feeding or reduced appetite (73.5%), retraction (67,6%), clicking, bubbling rales (88,2%). Severe pneumonia patients accounted for 52,9%. Anemia accounted for 73,5%, radiographic findings are alveolar syndrome (76,5%), Perimembranous (64,7%). 88,2% outcomes treatment. The medium time of hospitalized was 7 days. Conclusion: Pneumonia in children with atrially septal defect is often severe pneumonia and the successful treatment is high if patient diagnosed and treated promptly.
