Abstract

Objectives: To describe the health-related quality of life in patients with premature ventricular contractions (PVCs) before and after successful treatment with radiofrequency catheter ablation (RFCA) using the SF-36 questionnaire in Hanoi Medical University Hospital.

Subjects and Methods: A cross-sectional study was carried out on patients with PVCs, successfully treated with RFCA from May to August 2022.  Patients were interviewed using the SF-36 questionnaire right after intervention and three months later.

Result: 31 patients, mean age: 48 ± 13 (years), female: 71%. After RFCA, 54.8% of the patients had PVCs under five times in three months. Neither patients experienced PVC episodes longer than 7 hours nor had PVCs daily or constantly. Compared to before RFCA, symptoms were significantly decreased, especially dizziness, fatigue, boredom, chest pain, and worry. The SF-36 score in post-ablation was 77.20 ± 13.81 compared to 42.49 ± 19.12 in pre-ablation. In detail, the physical health score was improved more than the mental health score (37.74 compared to 31.68). Most patients had a good quality of life three months post RFCA intervention, accounting for 67.7%.

Conclusion: Health-related quality of life of PVC patients after successfully treating with RFCA was a statistically significant improvement with a p-value < 0.05.
