Abstract
Objective: Heart failure is the leading cause of death after heart transplantation, due to organ failure or rejection. This study aimed to evaluate the rate of heart failure and re-hospitalization in the group of patients after heart transplant at Viet Duc University Hospital. Methods: From April 14, 2011 to September 14, 2022, 45 patients underwent orthotopic heart transplantation at Viet Duc University Hospital, cross-sectional and retrospective study to determine the rate of heart failure and rehospitalization. Results: 45 patients with average age at the time of heart transplant 39.7 ± 15.7 years old, the youngest donor was 14 years old, the oldest donor was 56 years old, male accounted for more (77,8%), the underlying disease leading to heart transplant is dilated cardiomyopathy (accounting for 77,8%). 10/45 patients died after heart transplant, of which 7 patients had heart failure leading to death. There are 16/35 (45,7%) patients alive with heart failure with preserved ejection fraction. There are 16/35 (45,7%) patients alive with heart failure with preserved ejection fraction. There are 2/35 (5,7%) patients with stage B heart failure, 14/35 (40,0%) patients stage C heart failure of AHA/ACC classification. There are 7/35 (15,5%) patients re-admitted for heart failure , while no patient was re-hospitalized for heart failure in the group of surviving heart transplant patients. Conclusion: Heart transplant remans the gold-standard therapy for patients with end-stage heart failure and offers markedly improved survival and quality of life.
