Abstract

Heart surgery is a method of treatment, it can causes trauma that has a certain effect on the body, changes the patient’s psyche, causes fear, anxiety, stress for patients. The study aimed to assess the status of patients’ anxiety disorders after heart surgery.

Methods: Cross-sectional including 100 patients after heart surgery were assessed for anxiety disorders on a GAD-7 scale and assessed for a number of factors associated with postoperative anxiety disorders.

Results: There was up to 51% of patients after heart surgery present with severe anxiety disorders through screening on the GAD-7 scale. The risk of anxiety disorders was particularly higher in the female group, 7.35 times higher than in the male group, and in patient who are unable to take care of themselves, patients who depend entirely on caregivers are 8.67 times more likely to develop anxiety disorders than the average caregiver-dependent group. The risk of anxiety disorders is not associated with the age and the level of education of the patients. (p < 0.05)

Conclusion: The GAD-7 scale is a simple  and effective anxiety screening scale, provides clinical practice with better treatment and psychological counseling for patients after heart surgery, contributes to improving the quality of life for patients.
