Updates on the 2023 ESC guidelines for the management of infective endocarditis regarding surgical treatment indications

Abstract

Since the publication of the 2015 European Society of Cardiology (ESC) Guidelines for the management of infective endocarditis, important new data have been published mandating an update of recommendations. Therefore, in 2023, the ESC issued the new guidelines on the management of infectious endocarditis to update new recommendations on diagnosis and treatment of infectious endocarditis. In addition to recommendations on preventing, diagnosing, and treating infectious endocarditis, this new guideline emphasizes the role of surgical treatment. Within the content of this article, we will provide the new updates on surgical indications of infectious endocarditis
